Accessibility to the Bridge is limited to hiking, by permit only, a 13-mile trail or a two-hour boat ride from Lake Powell.

A place for prayer and worship in the Navajo culture, the Bridge signifies good fortune and is considered a sacred place for tribal members. Rainbow Bridge was not discovered by outsiders until 1909 by two parties who joined together in search of the towering sandstone formation. President Howard Taft declared it a national monument in 1910.
