West Rim
The Grand Canyon West Rim is the closest point of the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas.
The West Rim is home to the world famous SkyWalk Glass Bridge and the Hualapai Tribe.
Unlike the South Rim and North Rim, the Grand Canyon West Rim is not part of the Grand Canyon National Park. It is located on the Hualapai Indian Reservation at the western edge of the Grand Canyon corridor about 120 miles east of Las Vegas, Nevada and about 72 miles northwest of Kingman, Arizona. Because the West Rim is located much closer to Las Vegas than the South Rim, many tourists and tours originate from Las Vegas. However, since the opening of the SkyWalk at Grand Canyon West Rim, tourist visits have dramatically increased from every direction.
Grand Canyon West Rim Tours that include group transportation are usually most convenient since the area is in a remote wilderness region. There are no gas stations, convenience markets or fast food services at the Grand Canyon West Rim. There is also about a 14 mile stretch of unpaved road leading into the Hualapai Reservation at the West Rim. It is an anticipated that the road will be paved in the near future. If you choose to drive your own vehicle, make sure it is in good working order.
Did You Know?
President Theodore Roosevelt said of The Grand Canyon, "Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it, and man can only mar it. What you can do is to keep it for your children, your children's children, and for all who come after you, as one of the great sights which every American should see."
